Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 27 June to Sunday 3 July 2016
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 24 June but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. From Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 June the carriageway will be closed northbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56. Then on Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July the carriageway will be closed north and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by summer 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. From Monday 27 to Friday 1 July there will be a carriageway closure northbound between junctions 67 and 71, and southbound between junctions 73 and 67. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by early summer 2016.
A1M junction 60 to 61, County Durham
There will then be a contraflow in place north and southbound every night between 8pm and 6am with daytime 50mph speed restriction and hard shoulder running for structural maintenance. This will take place until late August.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until Spring 2017 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place. There will also be a 24 hour lane closure in place north and southbound until the project is completed.
A1 Westmoor to Newton on the Moor, Northumberland
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in place north and southbound for resurfacing work. This will take place until mid July.
A1 Ellingham to Belshill, Northumberland
There will be various phases of traffic signals north and southbound for investigation work. This will take place until mid July between 8pm and 6am.
A19 Killingworth to Moor Farm, North Tyneside
There will be a southbound carriageway closure for resurfacing work, taking place until Thursday 30 June. All closures will take place between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.
A66 Hartforth to Scotch Corner, North Yorkshire
There will be a contraflow in operation east and westbound for resurfacing work, taking place between 24 hours a day, until Friday 8th July. From Monday 11th July until Friday 22nd July there will be overnight convoy working.
A69 Aglioby
There will be full overnight closures between 7pm and 7am tonight and tomorrow and overnight lane closures Monday to Wednesday between Scotby Road and the Plains Road junctions for resurfacing.
A69 Melkridge
There will be overnight lane closures between 7pm and 7am at the Melkridge junction for around a mile. This will take place from Wednesday 29 June until Tuesday 5 July.
