Planned roadworks in the North East: summary for Monday 8 to 14 February 2016
Summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week.
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 5 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a northbound carriageway closure between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between junction 56 and Scotch Corner, taking place Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 February. There will then be a northbound carriageway closure between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51 and Scotch Corner Interchange will be closed. This will take place from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 February. Following on from this there will be northbound carriageway closure between junction 50 and Scotch Corner and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51, taking place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound between junctions 67 and 69 from Monday 8 to Thursday 11 February, taking place between 8pm and 6am. The same closure will take place on Friday 12 February between 8pm and 9am. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.
A1 Morpeth, Northumberland
There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.
A1 Alnwick to Deanmoor, Northumberland
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The southbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway. This will take place until mid February.
A1 Fenwick, Northumberland
There will be traffic signals in place north and southbound for investigation work. This will take place from Monday 8 to Thursday 17 February between 8pm and 6am.
A1M junction 60, County Durham
There will be a sections of the circulatory carriageway closed for resurfacing work. This will take place Monday 8 to Friday 19 February between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. This will be followed by lane closures on the circulatory carriageway from 22nd Feb to early March between 8pm and 6am.
A66 Bowes to Cross Lanes, County Durham
There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until Sunday 14 February.
A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham
There will be work ongoing until Friday 12 February for electrical work. There will be daytime lane closures between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
A19 Holystone to Killingworth Interchange, North Tyneside
There will be phases of slip road, carriageway and lane closures north and southbound for improvement work. This will take place until 11 February between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.
A66 A1130 Thornaby, Stockton on Tees
There will be an exit slip road closure east and westbound, for sign work. This will take place on Tuesday 9 February, between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.
