Planned roadworks in the North East – weekly summary for Monday 6 to Sunday 12 July
The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 3 July and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.
A1M Junction 51 Leeming, North Yorkshire
There will be a northbound lane closure in place for technology work between 6am and 9.30am on Saturday 11 July.
A1M Junction 59 to 61, County Durham
There will be lane closures in both directions on Tuesday 7 July as part of a resurfacing project. This will be followed by the closure of the southbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Wednesday 8 July, and the closure of the northbound carriageway overnight on Thursday 9 July. Diversions will be in place. The northbound carriageway will then be closed from Friday 10 July, with traffic running in both directions on the southbound carriageway 24 hours a day. The project is due to be completed by Friday 24 July.
A1M Junction 65 to Eighton Lodge, Gateshead Western Bypass
The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for surveys from Monday 6 until Thursday 23 July. A diversion will be in place.
A1 Junction 56 Barton to Junction 51 Leeming Bar
There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight between Junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and the southbound carriageway will be closed between Scotch Corner and Junction 51, from Monday 6 until Saturday 11 July. The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, and drivers will be able to follow clearly-signed diversion routes. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.
A1 East Ord, Northumberland
Temporary traffic lights will be in use overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for maintenance work on Thursday 9 July.
A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead
Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, at Lobley Hill from Monday 6 until Friday 10 July, with traffic being diverted off and then back on at the junction. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.
A1 Alnwick, Northumberland
The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.
A19 Silverlink to Wallsend, North Tyneside
The southbound exit slip road at the Wallsend junction will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for maintenance work. There will also be a lane closure on the southbound carriageway. The project is due to be completed 15 July, and a diversion will be in place.
A66 Little Burdon to Elton, County Durham
Lane closures will be in place in both directions for investigative work between 9am and 4pm from Monday 6 until Wednesday 8 July.
A66 Thornaby, Teesside
The westbound exit and entry slip roads at the junction with the A135 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for electrical work on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July. Diversions will be in place.
A66 Scotch Corner to Hartforth, North Yorkshire
The westbound side of the A66 is closed for resurfacing, with traffic running in both directions on the eastbound carriageway 24 hours a day. The project is due to be completed in August.
