PM call with Donald Tusk, 17 March 2015
David Cameron spoke with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council this evening to discuss this week's European Council.
A Downing Street spokesperson said:
The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, called the Prime Minister this evening to discuss this week’s European Council.
On the situation in Ukraine, both agreed on the need for European leaders to send a strong signal to Russia that sanctions will remain in place until the Minsk Agreements are fully implemented. They also discussed the proposals on energy security, where both leaders agreed that the Council should provide a clear direction: encouraging efforts that will enable Europe to reduce its dependency on Russian gas; increasing transparency of supply and gas contracts; and accelerating the infrastructure connections between European countries. They also touched briefly on Friday’s expected discussion on the economy, and both leaders agreed on the urgency of Greece and its eurozone partners finding a solution that meets Greece’s funding needs and ensures Greece implements necessary reforms.
