PM call with King Salman of Saudi Arabia: 16 July 2015

Prime Minister David Cameron spoke with His Majesty King Salman of Saudi Arabia yesterday.

A Number 10 spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister spoke to His Majesty King Salman of Saudi Arabia this evening about the historic deal reached on Iran’s nuclear programme. The Prime Minister passed on his condolences to His Majesty and the people of Saudi Arabia over the recent passing of His Royal Highness, Prince Saud al Faisal.

On the deal reached in Vienna, both leaders agreed that it was right to support an agreement which prevented Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. The Prime Minister said that the E3+3 were clear that sanctions on Iran would not be lifted until the full implementation of obligations and His Majesty welcomed the safeguards in place.

The Prime Minister set out that the UK remained fully committed to the security and stability of partners in the Gulf and His Majesty thanked him for this ongoing support.

The Prime Minister wished His Majesty ‘Ramadan Kareem’.
