PM call with Prime Minister English of New Zealand: 13 December 2016
Prime Minister Theresa May spoke with the new Prime Minister of New Zealand, Bill English, to offer her congratulations on his appointment.
A Downing Street spokesperson said:
The Prime Minister called Prime Minister Bill English of New Zealand this morning to offer her congratulations on his appointment. She added that she looked forward to building on the strong relationship shared by our 2 countries.
The leaders discussed Brexit and the Prime Minister reiterated that the UK is leaving the EU but not leaving Europe. They discussed trade and the importance of continuing to share trade policy expertise.
The Prime Minister thanked Prime Minister English for the support extended to British nationals affected by the recent earthquake in New Zealand and reiterated the UK offer of assistance on reconstruction.
The leaders concluded by saying that they looked forward to meeting at the earliest opportunity.
