PM hosts Gay Pride event at Number 10

Prime Minister David Cameron has hosted a Gay Pride Festival reception at Number 10 ahead of Pride Fortnight which starts on 18 June.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Those attending the event included Gay Pride Festival organisers, DJs, performers and individuals from charities, media and businesses.

Speaking at the event, Mr Cameron highlighted the Coalition Government’s commitment to gay equality.

The PM said:

I believe that our country is changing - changing for the better. Yes, the road to equality is long and hard. Yes, we still have a long distance to travel. But we are heading in the right direction, and we will get to our destination.

The Gay Pride Festival fortnight is a two-week programme of cultural and sporting events, which takes place every year across London.

A cross-government programme of work addressing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) policy has been set out by Minister for Women and Equalities Theresa May this week.
