PM meeting with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi: 20 December 2016

A Downing Street spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister held a bilateral meeting with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi, President Xi’s foreign policy adviser, at Downing Street earlier today.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed her commitment to developing a genuine strategic partnership in this ‘golden era’ of bilateral relations.

They agreed priority areas in the coming year would include enhanced trade and investment between our 2 countries, greater co-operation on security, and more joint work to tackle global challenges such as climate change.

They also touched on foreign policy issues, including Afghanistan, where they agreed the UK and China should pursue enhanced co-operation in support of Afghan reconstruction.
