PM meeting with President of the European Parliament: 4 February 2016
David Cameron welcomed the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, to Downing Street for talks this evening.
Following the meeting a Downing Street spokesperson said:
The Prime Minister welcomed the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, to Downing St this evening for talks on the UK renegotiation.
They discussed the far-reaching and detailed proposals that Donald Tusk tabled on Tuesday. They both agreed that much progress had been made but there was still hard work ahead. Mr Schulz reiterated his commitment to finding solutions and said that he would work to ensure that the European Parliament played its part in securing a successful outcome.
Mr Schulz explained that the political groups in the European Parliament were currently considering the proposals ahead of the formal talks between member states and involving the EU institutions, which get underway in Brussels tomorrow.
The Prime Minister confirmed that he would meet with the chairmen of the political groups ahead of the February European Council, at the so-called Conference of Presidents meeting on 16 February.
