PM phone call with President Putin
The Prime Minister called President Putin of Russia yesterday (5 November 2013).
Following the phone call, a Downing Street spokesperson said:
They discussed the global economy, in particular the progress made at the Lough Erne G8 and the St Petersburg G20 summits. They also discussed the situation in Syria, welcoming the progress made to rid Syria of its chemical weapons and agreeing on the urgent necessity of a political solution to the conflict, building on the principles set out at Lough Erne.
The Prime Minister raised the case of the Greenpeace activists detained in Russia and the need for prompt, fair and proportionate action by the Russian judicial system. President Putin was understanding of the Prime Minister’s concerns. They agreed to stay in touch on the issue.
