PM phone call with Prime Minister Zeidan of Libya

David Cameron called Prime Minister Zeidan to express his support for PM Zeidan's leadership and to welcome his release this morning.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Following the phone call, a Downing Street spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister offered the UK’s continued support for Prime Minister Zeidan and the Libyan people during this challenging transition. He said the UK would continue to call on all Libyans to work together to achieve the goals of the 17 February revolution - a stable, free, peaceful and prosperous future for themselves and their children.

Both leaders agreed that Libya’s democratically elected representatives and leaders must be able to carry out their duties and deliver Libya’s political transition free from the threat of kidnap, violence and armed intimidation. A minority of individuals must not be allowed to undermine that.
