Portrait marks monarch’s longest reign

High Commissioner Menna Rawlings last night presented the Governor-General of Australia, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, with a photographic portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by celebrated British photographer David Bailey.
The portrait was presented during a reception at Government House in Canberra, the official residence of the Governor-General, to mark The Queen becoming the longest serving monarch.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Rawlings said:
To my mind this portrait represents an image of a strong, confident, modern monarch with just a hint of a mischievous sense of humour – the kind of image that us Brits often associate with Australians and we hope you occasionally associate with us.
The portrait was commissioned by the UK government’s GREAT Campaign – which seeks to showcase the very best the UK has to offer with the aim of encouraging the world to visit, study and do business with the UK.
Launched in 2011 by Prime Minister David Cameron, the GREAT Campaign is now truly global and forms a daily part of activities at our diplomatic posts in 144 countries around the world.
