Press release

Press briefing: afternoon 12 June 2013

The Prime Minister's Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on Syria and Qatada.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Syria

Asked whether the PM would give the House a vote on arming the Syrian opposition, the PMS referred the journalist to the PM’s words at PMQs. The PM had set out his position; no decision had been taken, but of course he was more than happy for the House to have its say, when the time was right.

Qatada

Asked about the deportation of Abu Qatada, the PMS said that the news Jordan’s parliament had approved a treaty with the UK to lead to Qatada’s deportation was good news. The case was still ongoing but the PM was clear in his determination to put Qatada on a plane to Jordan.
