The Prime Minister's Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on the European Council and Baroness Butler Sloss.

European Council

Asked if the Prime Minister had any strong views on who should be the next European Council president, the Prime Minister’s Spokesperson (PMS) said the Prime Minister had stated recently that he believed there were a number of candidates who could do the job well.

Asked if the Prime Minister thought the centre left should pick the next European Council president, the PMS said the Prime Minister believed the European Council should choose its future president.

Baroness Butler Sloss

Asked what the Prime Minister’s response was to Baroness Butler Sloss’s resignation, the PMS said both the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary understood and respected her decision.
