Press briefing: afternoon 17 December 2014

The Prime Minister's Official Spokesperson answered questions about Hamas and Cuba.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Hamas

When asked about the European Court ruling on Hamas, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson (PMOS) said the court had taken a procedural decision on the way the EU had gone about placing Hamas on the list and it was not a ruling on whether Hamas was a terrorist group or not. The judgment noted the asset freeze would remain in place for three months and Hamas’ military wing remains a proscribed organisation in the UK.

Cuba

When asked about the United States potentially normalising relations with Cuba, the PMOS said any steps that would pave the way for better relations between the two countries were something to welcome.
