Press briefing: afternoon 24 March 2014

The Prime Minister’s Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on Ukraine, the Budget, political dynasties and flight MH370.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Ukraine/G7

Asked about the meeting of G7 leaders at the National Security Council, the PMS said that a statement would be issued after the meeting regarding the future of the G8 grouping in light of Russian actions in Crimea.

Budget

In response to beer prices in light of the duty reductions announced in the Budget, the PMS said that reductions in beer duty had been widely welcomed.

Political dynasties

In response to Elizabeth Truss’ reported concern about the increase of political dynasties, the PMS referred the assembled press to the respective political parties for a position.

Missing plane

Asked about the missing Malaysian plane, the PMS said that the UK stood ready to offer any assistance to the Malaysian authorities and others involved in the investigation. Staff from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch had been working closely with Malaysian authorities for more than 10 days.
