Press release

Press briefing: morning 27 January

The Prime Minister’s Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on immigration and tax.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Immigration

Asked about the PM’s comments earlier today that immigration from Romania and Bulgaria since 1 January was reasonable, the PMS said this referred to early reports that suggested no significant change of levels and the PM was still committed to reducing net migration to the tens of thousands.

Asked whether any government amendments would be included in the Immigration Bill amendments this week, the PMS said that the government would look at any amendments being tabled.

Tax

Asked if the PM agrees with the London Mayor that the top rate of tax should be reduced to 40p, the PMS reiterated the PM’s position on tax.
