On Sunday, 10th November, the British Embassy hosted the annual Service of Remembrance at the Commonwealth War Graves in Tirana. The service commemorates all those who have given their lives in wars and armed conflicts. It is marked every year in the UK, and by British Embassies around the world, on the closest Sunday to 11th November, the anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Remembrance Day in Albania
Albanian Prime Minister Rama, Minister of Defence Kodheli and Head of Parliament Meta joined the British Ambassador and Defence Attaché in laying wreaths of poppies at the War Memorial. Members of the diplomatic corps also attended the ceremony as well as the British community in Albania. Many guests wore traditional poppies, which have been used as a symbol of remembrance in the UK since the First World War, because poppies were the first flowers to grow on the former battlefields in France and Flanders.
