The UK government held a public dialogue to understand how the public feels about the connection between the sun and time. The National Measurement Office (NMO) has launched a report summarising the findings of this public dialogue, which has helped inform policy on this issue. All four strands of the public dialogue indicated that the public has a strong preference for continuing to use leap seconds to maintain the link between time and the sun.
