Restrictions in England from 5 November: Take care at the coast

Take care when visiting your local coastline and help reduce pressure on the NHS and emergency services, including HM Coastguard

Coastguard at the coast

National restrictions for England state you must not leave or be outside of your home, but you can exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place.

Outdoor public places include parks, beaches and countryside. You should avoid travelling in or out of your local area, and you should look to reduce the number of journeys you make. However, you can still travel for a number of reasons, including exercise, if you need to make a short journey to do so.

When visiting outdoor public spaces, and/or engaging in your sport/activity, you should follow the rules and social distancing guidelines. Exercise outdoors or visiting an outdoor public place is limited to the people you live with, your support bubble or, when on your own, with one person from another household.

These national restrictions apply to England, see specific guidance for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

If you are visiting your local coastline, please take care as coastal dangers are ever present. To reduce pressure on the NHS and emergency services, including HM Coastguard, we ask people to avoid activities that involve a significant degree of risk.

We’re in difficult times, but if you’re in trouble at the coast, we’re always here for you. In an emergency at sea or at the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
