Road safety project: “Back to School Safely”
The Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation launched a campaign focused on road safety for children, supported by the British Embassy.

A video raising awareness about the safety measures that must be put into practice when children travel by cars was introduced by a panel composed of the Ambassador, Ben Lyster-Binns; the President of the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation, María Fernanda Rodríguez; the Secretary-General of the National Unit for Road Safety, Pablo Inthamoussu and the President of the Uruguayan Society of Paediatrics, Alfredo Cerisola.
The Ambassador stated that road safety is a worrying issue and that supporting this campaign to raise awareness on the importance of seat belts for children is for him “an honour and a duty”.
“The number of accidents on a global scale is terrifying and the figures in Uruguay are alarming. The hard work of the Foundation to show the importance of the use of seat belts for children has achieved very positive results”, the Ambassador said.
Mrs. Rodríguez highlighted the importance of the safety belt and the need for accident prevention. She recalled an accident in which a school bus overturned, but all of the children that travelled in it were unharmed because their seatbelts were fastened.
The campaign, which consists of seven videos, recommends the use of appropriate child seats and three-point adjustable safety belts. Additionally, official school transport should be in authorised vehicles only.
