The high holy days give us the opportunity to celebrate the life and the contribution of the Jewish community right across the country.
And I’m here today in Liverpool at the Prince’s Road Synagogue, this magnificent building, that for over 100 years has been a centre of Jewish life in this great city, to meet with the community and to reflect on the contribution that they have made over so many years to this city and beyond.
The success of the Jewish community, excelling in all different areas of life and making such a contribution to our public life, at national and local level, is one of the great glories of our country.
And it is a time to reflect on the achievements of the past, and to send a clear message that the value that we place on our Jewish citizens and the relationships that are forged across our communities are one of the strengths of our society. So during this very important time I join everyone in celebrating the contribution that the community has made not just in cities like Liverpool but to our nation as a whole.
