Royal Marines hosted on 350th anniversary
Event celebrates special relationship between Royal Marines and the Falkland Islands
Retired and serving Royal Marines have been guests of honour at a reception at Government House held to mark the 350th anniversary of the Corps’ foundation.
The reception was part of a series of events organised to mark the special occasion.
In a speech of welcome, Governor Colin Roberts said Government House should be a “home from home” for Royal Marines, their families and friends, adding, “Just look around and you’ll find all kinds of mementos of Royal Marines that have been here before.”
The Royal Marines had a very special relationship with the Falkland Islands, Mr Roberts said, the evidence of which was in those who had made the Falkland Islands their home over the years.
He then proposed a toast to the Royal Marines.
