As part of a programme to support and enhance the ability of the Vietnam Coast Guard to monitor and police Vietnam’s internationally-recognised Exclusive Economic Zone, instructors from the Royal Navy’s International Maritime Training Team held a week-long training course at Vietnam Coast Guard Region 1 Headquarters, Hai Phong from 11-15 May 2018.

The ‘Maritime Security Operations Course’ covered topics such as International Maritime Law, Embarked Aviation, Rules of Engagement, International Ship & Port Security and Maritime Security.

All 31 students from the Vietnam Coast Guard, Vietnam People’s Navy and Vietnam Border Guard completed the course successfully and were awarded certificates by the UK Defence Attaché Group Captain David Houghton. Later this year Royal Navy instructors will return to Vietnam to support further training courses for Vietnam Coast Guard personnel.
