RURA decision to indefinitely suspend the BBC Kinyarwanda service
We are disappointed by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority decision to suspend the BBC Kinyarwanda service indefinitely.
We are disappointed by RURA’s (the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority) decision to extend the suspension of the BBC Kinyarwanda service indefinitely. We are aware that RURA have also decided to refer the case to Rwanda’s Prosecutor General. We expect legal due process to be followed. As we have said in our previous statements, we believe that a plural media system with as many sources of information available as possible is in everyone’s interests, and that the Rwandan people should not be deprived of the BBC Kinyarwanda service, a popular and trusted source of news. By promoting media plurality, Rwanda would enhance its international reputation, strengthen democratic governance and encourage potential investors.
