The best of Scotland’s food, drink and produce was celebrated in the heart of London.
The best of Scotland’s food, drink and produce is being celebrated in the heart of London today [Wednesday 30 November 2016], as Scottish Secretary David Mundell welcomes a number of Scottish companies and hundreds of guests to Dover House to mark St Andrew’s Day.
The showcase will include famous names like Mackies and AG Barr, as well as up and coming companies like the Highland Chocolatier and Shetland Reel Gin. The guests at the event will include politicians and ambassadors from around the world – influencers who can spread the word about Scottish food and drink in key domestic and international markets.
Mr Mundell said:
St Andrew’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all that is great about Scotland, and recognise the huge contribution Scotland makes to the world.
Scots have a unique influence right across the globe and I am very pleased that we are marking that through our #GlobalStAndrews campaign. From peacekeeping to aid work, building trade and diplomatic alliances, Scottish people play a significant part on the global stage.
As Secretary of State for Scotland, I am proud to showcase Scotland’s world class food and drink industry, worth over £14 billion every year to our economy. As the UK prepares to leave the EU, the UK Government is committed to helping Scottish businesses seize the exciting new trade opportunities ahead.
The event coincides with the UK Government’s #GlobalStAndrews campaign – recognising Scotland’s impact across the world by bringing to life the exceptional and far-reaching work done internationally by inspirational Scots and those connected to Scotland.
The campaign highlights UK Government staff playing a key role in international affairs, including members of the armed forces serving in Iraq and Washington, aid workers helping alleviate poverty in Pakistan and Tanzania, and diplomats building international relations in Barbados and Singapore. Co-ordinated by the Scotland Office, it includes contributions from the Ministry of Defence, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Department for International Development.
