Screening of 'Pink Saris' for International Women's Day
To mark international Women’s Day, British High Commissioner Antony Phillipson hosted a screening of ‘Pink Saris’ at his residence.
The Women’s Integration Network Council and Women’s Executive Committees (WECs) of the People’s Association (PA), Save the Children, The Singapore International Foundation, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore Association of Women’s Lawyers and PAVE (Promoting Alternatives to Violence) also marked the International Women’s Day at the British High Commission Singapore.
The film follows the Gulabi Gang, a group comprising hundreds of lower caste women in Uttar Pradesh state India who try to empower women who are suffering from abuse, and to educates them about their rights.
On International Women’s Day this year, British Foreign Secretary William Hague called for greater international action to prevent sexual violence in conflict and highlighted the UK’s current efforts, including the creation of a Team of Experts to assist victims.
