Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport reappoints Sport England Chair

Nick Bitel has been reappointed by the Secretary of State as Chair of Sport England until 21 April 2021.

Nick Bitel was originally appointed Chair of Sport England in 2013. He has been the Chief Executive of London Marathon Events since 1995. As well as staging the world’s most successful city centre marathon which has over 39,000 finishers each year who between them raise a world record £59.4 million per annum, the company also puts on RideLondon billed as the world’s greatest festival of cycling, with more than 100,000 cyclists taking part.

Nick is also a solicitor and consultant at Kerman & Co specialising in sports law. His major sport clients include The Wimbledon Championships and UEFA. Nick is a Board Member of the London Legacy Development Corporation. He is also a Board Member of UK Sport and a trustee of Wembley National Stadium Trust.

The Chair of Sport England is appointed by the Secretary of State and the role is remunerated at £40,000 per annum. In accordance with OCPA’s Code of Practice, any significant political activity undertaken by an appointee in the last five years must be declared. Nick Bitel has declared no such political activity.
