Secretary of State for Wales welcomes talks on Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon
Stephen Crabb: "I want Wales to have the world's first power generating tidal lagoon."
Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb today (2 December) welcomed progress towards the world’s first power generating tidal lagoon potentially being built in Wales.
It follows today’s announcement in the National Infrastructure Plan that the government will start closer discussions with Tidal Lagoon Power Ltd who want to build a tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay.
Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb said:
This is great news for Wales and has the potential to provide a massive boost to the Welsh economy - creating thousands of jobs, attracting millions of pounds worth of investment and helping to secure Wales’s energy future.
Wales is already home to some of the most cutting edge companies in the world and the country is uniquely placed to pioneer tidal power.
I am a strong supporter of this project and I have long been making the case to my Cabinet colleagues that Welsh innovation should be supporting the next generation of low-carbon technology.
