Shorter meets Berri: women’s political participation remains key
We're pleased that the Speaker continues to support increased representation of women in parliament. This is something which many Lebanese are hoping for.
British Ambassador to Lebanon Hugo Shorter met today with the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri.
After the meeting Ambassador Shorter said:
I met with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri today. It was an opportunity to discuss our strong bilateral relations and the upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as regional developments. It remains very important that they happen on 6 May as planned.
It is a step forward to see a woman candidate on AMAL’s list. I am also pleased that the Speaker continues to support increased representation of women in parliament. This is something which I know many Lebanese are hoping for. I believe working towards 30% of female candidates on political electoral lists remains a key goal for ensuring women’s political participation.
