A record number of 290 organisations are taking exhibition space in the main hall, where a new feature for 2016 will be a Skills Zone.
This area will host a number of organisations that contribute to developing skills for the UK’s nuclear future. Their representatives will focus on a range of issues, including apprenticeships, qualifications, competencies and a consortium approach to recruiting graduates.
Meanwhile, the Innovation Zone will once again be located in the central area, with demonstrations during the afternoon from a range of new and emerging technologies.
Other government departments attending include:
- the Ministry of Defence (MOD)
- the export-focused Department for International Trade (DfIT)
- innovation agency Innovate UK
The event is organised jointly by the NDA and its Site Licence Companies and is now believed to be the biggest of its kind in Europe. Launched in 2011, its aim is to create greater visibility of opportunities for suppliers, in particular for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The morning will feature a series of presentations, culminating in the annual awards ceremony that acknowledges the vital role of suppliers in driving decommissioning progress across the UK (the deadline for submitting entries has now closed).
The NDA’s Chief Executive John Clarke, Chief Executive of the NDA, will open the event, with a further keynote speech by Rear Admiral Keith Beckett, Director of Submarines, MOD. The afternoon will see additional presentations from the SLCs, by the MOD, the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, the Strategic Services Alliance, plus Innovate UK and the NDA’s R&D team.
Ron Gorham, the NDA’s Head of Supply Chain Optimisation and SME Champion, said:
The day brings together suppliers of all sizes with the organisations placing contracts, and provides excellent opportunities for informal face-to-face networking while showcasing the latest nuclear technologies.
