SLC starts 2025 by paying £3.2bn to students
£3.2bn in maintenance loan payments sent to nation’s students
By Jackie Currie, Executive Director, Customer Operations
As we welcome 2025, students are staring to receive maintenance loan payments from SLC.
During the month of January, we expect to pay out £3.2bn to 1.3m students, with approximately £2bn already been paid so far this year. These payments include second instalments to students who started their courses in Autumn 2024, but also first term payments to those learners whose studies are beginning in January. Students can check their payment dates by logging into their online accounts and viewing their payment information.
As always, we are already looking ahead to important milestones in 2025. In February, tuition fee payments will be made to universities and colleges, and during the spring we will open our student finance applications for the 25/26 academic year.
For any prospective student who is thinking about applying for student finance in the 25/26 academic year, my advice is to submit your student finance application as soon as our service is open. Even if you don’t have a confirmed place at university, or are still unsure of your plan, it’s a simple process to update these details on an approved application. Our goal is to have as many students ready to pay as possible at the start of the academic year, and while September may seem like a long time away, it will be here before we know it.
Potential students can follow our social media channels for all the latest information on when applications are available: Student Finance England (SFE) on Facebook, X and Instagram and Student Finance Wales (SFW) on Facebook and X
