Umthombo is a Street Child NGO operating in Durban which aims to promote, amoungst others, health awareness and personal development using surf coaching to encourage participation. “When I surf I feel like I am flying. I am far above street life.” Khotso, age 15, former street child part of Umthombo. Over the years the surf programme has seen several ‘graduates’ find gainful employment in the popular surfing sector.
