Sports Minister Helen Grant statement on Sir Dave Brailsford announcement

British Cycling performance supremo to leave and focus on Team Sky

Sports Minister Helen Grant has given her reaction to British Cycling’s announcement that Sir Dave Brailsford is to step down as Performance Director at the governing body and concentrate full-time on his role as Team Principal at the road race outfit Team Sky.

Helen Grant said:

Sir Dave Brailsford’s service to British Cycling has been incredible, helping our top cyclists put in stunning, medal-winning performances at Olympic and Paralympic Games. During his tenure the culture of cycling in this country has been transformed with masses of people inspired to get on their bikes. I thank him for his hugely significant contribution to British sport and wish him all the best for the future with Team Sky.

British Cycling has announced that Shane Sutton has been appointed Technical Director with responsibility for rider performance.
