Statement re SRA's Authorisation of Individuals Regulations.
Proposed changes to the SRA's proposed new Authorisation of Individuals Regulations will not be implemented
Following the proposed changes to the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) Authorisation of Individuals Regulations announced earlier this year, the SRA and the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) have undertaken a detailed examination of the impact of the changes to Rule 9, on the OISC statutory regulatory scheme and the wider immigration advice sector.
As a result of this work, and following agreement by the Legal Services Board, Rule 9.5 (b) and (c) and 9.6 of the SRA’s proposed new Authorisation of Individuals Regulations will not be implemented on 25 November 2019.
The effect of this will be that solicitors authorised by the SRA to provide immigration advice and services can continue to do so from 25 November 2019 onwards, in the same way that they could prior to that date.
Further information is available from the OISC guidance on “Regulation and Solicitors” or alternatively, please contact the SRA directly.
