Stephen Crabb hosts London International Shipping Week reception
Welsh Secretary: Maritime sector propelling economic growth in Wales
Wales Office Ministers will this week welcome the Welsh shipping community to a reception at Gwydyr House and signal their support for London International Shipping Week (7-11 September).
London International Shipping Week (LISW) is an industry led event which brings together representatives from the sector, government Ministers and maritime experts to discuss how best to propel the industry to further growth.
Shipping and maritime services are key players in the UK’s economic prosperity, contributing £11.8billion per year to the economy.
Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb said:
Wales has a proud maritime history, supporting and creating thousands of jobs and attracting investment.
London International Shipping Week provides a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the close partnership between government and industry, and strengthen the UK’s position as a world leader in the sector.
I want Wales to benefit from this reputation and be considered one of the most attractive places to conduct international maritime business. I hope we can capitalise on International Shipping Week to showcase Wales’s offer and help propel the sector to further growth and success.
