Stoptober campaign kicks off in one week

Just one week to go until the nation’s smokers get a chance to start their 28-day joint quit attempt.

The innovative campaign, Stoptober, which is backed by Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation, provides people signing up with tips and advice. They will also get a daily message if they download the Stoptober app to give them additional support and encouragement throughout the month.

Dame Carol Black, Chair of the Responsibility Deal’s health at work network, is urging employers to get behind Stoptober in her latest blog. Dame Carol spells out what’s in it for employers to help their staff stop smoking and urges them to sign up to the Responsibility Deal stop smoking pledge.**

Smokers interested in giving up can search for ‘Stoptober’ online, or ask their local pharmacist for a free support pack. Smoking remains the biggest cause of premature death in England and is responsible for the loss of more than 100,000 lives in the UK every year.
