Student loans' staff hit the right notes for cancer charity

Staff at the Student Loans Company hit all the right notes recently when carol singing efforts raised over £1200 for Beatson Cancer Charity.

IT Delivery Manager Kirsteen McGroarty, from Paisley, led the employee choirs at SLC’s three Glasgow sites, a year after she was featured as the face of the charity’s annual Christmas Bauble fundraising campaign.

Kirsteen, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2016 and received treatment at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, said: “I’m so pleased we’ve been able to donate such a substantial sum to a cause that’s so close to my heart.

“Beatson Cancer Charity offered me support and guidance throughout my cancer treatment and beyond and I always try to give as much as I can. I arrange carol singing at work every year, as well as helping to spread the word for the charity as part of their campaigns.

“My colleagues at the Student Loans Company have always been so supportive and loved getting together for a festive singalong to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Kirsteen will also be a guest speaker at Beatson Cancer Charity’s Bard and His Belles Burns Supper on 18 January at the Hilton.

Joyce Ross, Beatson Cancer Charity’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, said: “We are so grateful to Kirsteen for all that she has done for Beatson Cancer Charity over the last few years.

“Her commitment and enthusiasm has been outstanding and she has encouraged her family and colleagues to join her and get behind Team Beatson.

“Kirsteen has also kindly agreed to speak at our Burns Supper on Friday 18 January. She’s a truly inspirational lady and we can’t thank her enough for her support.”
