Swire Comments on publication of advice on Charter of Rights

Minister of State, The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, today commented on the publication of advice by the Joint Committee.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Minister of State, The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, today commented on the publication of advice by the Joint Committee comprising of representatives of the Irish and Northern Ireland Human Rights Commissions on a Charter of Rights for the island of Ireland.

The Minister said:

The Belfast Agreement refers to the possibility of establishing a Charter which would be open to signature by all democratic political parties.

This advice from the Joint Committee provides a basis on which the parties and the two Governments can further consider the possibility of such a Charter and I am grateful to the Joint Committee for taking forward this work.
