British technology expert Dr Chris Moore delivered a seminar at the Open Beauchef innovation centre at Universidad de Chile last week to help innovators and start-ups understand how they can grow their businesses in the UK.

The seminar was part of a visit in which Dr Moore also met with the Chilean Production Development Agency (CORFO), all 3 of Chile’s technology transfer hubs and a number of companies, business incubators and trade associations.

Items on Dr Moore’s agenda included:

  • 5G telephony
  • artificial intelligence – to which the government has committed almost £1 billion for its development
  • the creation of 200 new PhD positions a year for 5 years
  • the establishment of 20 new research centres regarding big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).

With the size of its market and talent pool, the availability of angel investment, venture capital and project funding, access to research centres and a diverse range of technology developments, the UK offers companies from Chile and other overseas markets the chance to grow in a dynamic and demanding environment.
