Thailand-UK Strategic Dialogue on 22 March 2016

On 22 March the UK hosted the second Thailand-UK Strategic Dialogue at Lancaster House in London. The event was co-chaired by Sir Simon McDonald, Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and His Excellency Mr Apichart Chinwanno, Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides had an open and frank exchange including on political developments in Thailand, the UK’s membership of the EU, developments in ASEAN, and key global issues such as climate change, the International Wildlife Trade and the situation in Syria. The meeting also discussed UK-Thailand collaboration on trade and investment, education, science and technology, police, security and consular issues. At the conclusion of the meeting the two sides issued a Joint Statement.

The Strategic Dialogue was established in 2012 as a high-level forum for the UK and Thailand to exchange views and agree on areas for enhanced cooperation.
