Senior Kyrgyz Parliamentary Delegation visits UK
Developing inter-parliamentary relations between the UK and Kyrgyzstan
Eight Heads of Parliament Committees from the Jogorku Kenesh, the Kyrgyz Parliament are visiting the UK and Scotland under the auspices of the “Deepening Democracy” Programme, financed by Britain’s Department for International Development and USAID.
During the visit, the delegation will learn about the British Parliamentary system and its long history, including how parliamentary Committees exercise oversight of government activities. The delegation will also discuss Kyrgyzstan’s development challenges and opportunities to strengthen UK/Kyrgyz Republic inter-parliamentary cooperation. The programme includes visits to both the British and Scottish Parliaments, meetings with Ministers of State of FCO and DFID, and others.
The DFID/USAID Deepening Democracy Programme is a three year initiative which aims to: increase the effectiveness, and responsiveness of the Kyrgyz Parliament, its MPs and its secretariat; to make political parties become more representative, better able to reach out to citizens, and to develop stronger political engagement with young people; and enable civil society to play a constructive role in socio-economic and political developments in the Kyrgyz Republic.
