The Princess Royal hears of CNC's world-leading work
Her Royal Highness met T/ACC Michael Vance and members of CNC’s Strategic Escort Group during a visit to Nuclear Transport Solutions’ marine terminal.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal met T/Assistant Chief Constable (T/ACC) Michael Vance and members of CNC’s Strategic Escort Group (SEG) during a visit to Nuclear Transport Solutions’ (NTS) marine terminal in Cumbria this week.
The Princess Royal was given a unique opportunity to explore NTS’ home port of Barrow-in-Furness where she enjoyed a tour of a specialist nuclear vessel and a state-of-the-art locomotive.
During her visit, she spoke with T/ACC Vance and other officers, where she learned of the constabulary’s global nuclear operations and work to protect the UK’s civil nuclear sites and surrounding communities.
T/ACC Vance said: “It was a privilege to explain CNC’s role in transporting nuclear material across the globe to the Princess Royal, who was extremely interested in the world-leading work the constabulary does abroad.”
The Princess Royal also addressed members of CNC’s SEG team, which is the armed escort protection unit that accompanies nuclear material NTS safely and securely transits around the world.
Ch Insp Mike Caley added: “The work we do is truly unique and plays a major role in making the world a safer place.
“To showcase our unique capabilities to a senior member of the Royal family was incredible. We couldn’t carry out the work we do without our people, so it was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the CNC’s importance both nationally and internationally.”
NTS is the world’s leading provider of nuclear transport and logistics solutions. A decades-long partnership between the CNC and NTS has enabled category one nuclear material to be transported around the world safely.
