The opening ceremony was held at the Radio Theatre in Talaat Harb, central Cairo.

On Thursday, 20 March the British Ambassador, James Watt, attended the opening ceremony of “smART Mobile Phone Festival” at the Radio Theatre in Talaat Harb. The Festival is a project supported by the British Embassy in Cairo to celebrate the art of filmmaking using the camera of a mobile phone. During the opening, the screening booths for the smART festival were launched and the Egyptian premiere of Salma EL Tarzi’s long- awaited film ‘Underground/On The Surface’ was shown.

Asked about his thoughts of smART, the Ambassador said “I am delighted that the British Embassy is supporting smART – a wonderful initiative using mobile phone technology to enable people throughout Egypt to express themselves through film. I look forward to the results which I am sure will be outstanding.”
