TRA to review countervailing measure on Indonesian biodiesel
The TRA has initiated a transition review into the countervailing measure on biodiesel from Indonesia.
The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has initiated a transition review into the countervailing measure on biodiesel from Indonesia. This measure was inherited from the EU and is set to expire on 10 December 2024.
The TRA’s review will examine the effectiveness of this measure in protecting UK biodiesel producers from unfair trade practices related to subsidies provided to Indonesian biodiesel producers. The review period will focus on imports between 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024.
At present the duty payable on imports of biodiesel from Indonesia ranges from 8% to 18%.
Businesses that may be affected by this measure can register their interest through our public file by 23 December 2024. Interested parties that register after this date may not be able to participate fully in the review.
Background information
• The TRA is the UK’s independent body for investigating and recommending remedies against unfair trading practices.
• Countervailing duties are designed to counteract government subsidies that cause material injury to domestic industries.
• This review follows the UK’s post-Brexit trade framework, which allows the TRA to assess inherited EU measures and determine their appropriateness for the UK market.
