Turks and Caicos Islands Post Cabinet Statement 10 October 2018
His Excellency the Governor, Dr John Freeman, chaired the 23rd meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, 10 October 2018, at the Hon. Hilly Ewing Building on Providenciales.
All Ministers were present except the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Gaming and the Hon. Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Planning.
At this meeting Cabinet:

noted an information paper on proposed amendments to the Elections Ordinance which would be put out for consultation

authorised the Ministry of Home Affairs to approve on an exceptional basis due to the serious impact following the 2017 hurricanes, specified payments for outstanding claims against TCIG for services provided by private companies after the hurricanes
-
approved an application from the owners of the Oasis at Grace Bay Resort and the Caribbean Paradise Inn for a reduction in customs import duties in respect of materials imported for the refurbishment of both developments in accordance with the 2017 TCIG Refurbishment Policy

advised His Excellency the Governor to approve the issuing of a public tender notice for the lease of Crown Land Parcel 60605/168 at Norway and Five Cays on Providenciales in accordance with Section 34 of the Crown Land Ordinance. Cabinet approved the reservation of parcels 60602/144 and 153 for the expansion of Government offices and facilities

approved the appointments of Mr Ashwood Forbes as Chairman and Ms Curlena Phillips as Employee Representative of the National Health Insurance Board (NHIB) Appeals Tribunal for a period of two years in accordance with Section 5 (2) of the National Health Insurance Regulations Part II

approved the recommendation of the Board of Invest TCI on the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer of Invest TCI subject to clarification on certain terms

approved proposed amendments to the Schedule of the Ports Authority (Stevedores Fees and Charges) Regulations 2008 to adjust the stevedoring tariff in accordance with Section 15 of the Regulations

approved, on a conditional basis, an application from the Grace Bay Club for a reduction in customs duties in respect of furnishings and fixtures imported for the refurbishment of the resort in accordance with the 2017 TCIG Refurbishment Policy

authorised the Ministry of Education to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the West Indies (UWI) for the UWI to establish an Open Campus Site on Providenciales to improve access to tertiary education

advised His Excellency the Governor to approve, subject to amendments being made, the draft Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 2018

approved the opening of the 2018/19 Conch Season to run from 15 October 2018 – 15 July 2019. Cabinet further approved recommendations relating to the size of catch and the quota allocation for fisheries in South Caicos and Providenciales

noted the recommendation of the Procurement Board on the award of the following contract in accordance with the Public Procurement Ordinance – TR 18/07 Schools Infrastructure Project Phase I

received an up-date by the Chair of the TCI National Disaster Recovery Task Force on recent and planned work of the Task Force since the last report to Cabinet

noted reports by the TCI Statutory Bodies up-dating Cabinet on the implementation of recommendations following a review of the Statutory Bodies at the end of 2017

approved, subject to amendments being made and resources being available, the establishment and implementation of the TCI National Sports Policy

advised His Excellency the Governor to approve a Notice for the waiver of warehouse rents for goods deposited in the Queen’s Warehouse by applicants for the period commencing 10 October 2018 – 10 November 2018

approved the reprint of the Companies Ordinance and the Proceeds of Crime Ordinance along with subsidiary legislation made under those Ordinances
-
received an up-date by Her Excellency the Deputy Governor on the next batch of project tender documents to be issued.
