Turks and Caicos Post Cabinet Meeting Statement
His Excellency the Governor, Dr John Freeman, chaired the 20th meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, 16 August 2017, at the Hon. Hilly Ewing Building on Providenciales.
All Ministers were present.
At this meeting Cabinet:

considered a paper by the Hon. Minister of Health on the current financial position of the National Health Insurance Board (NHIB). Cabinet expressed grave concern about the parlous state of the NHIB’s finances and the lack of effective management by the NHIB. Cabinet called for urgent steps to remedy the situation and agreed on immediate measures to be taken. Given financial commitments incurred by the NHIB which must be settled, Cabinet advised His Excellency the Governor to approve additional funding for the NHIB from the contingency fund to avoid the NHIB being in default to local and overseas providers

noted the recommendations of the National Honours and Awards Committee for nominations for honours and awards for 2017 to be made at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony on 9 October 2017. Cabinet agreed to publish the names of nominated recipients in the Gazette not later than six weeks prior to 9 October in accordance with Section 3 of the National Honours and Awards Ordinance and Subsidiary Legislation 2014

received an information paper by the Hon. Premier up-dating Cabinet on progress to appoint a consultant to carry out a review of the TCI Statutory Bodies which would commence on 4 September 2017

His Excellency the Governor reminded Ministers of their undertaking to raise the level of hurricane preparedness across all government departments. The Hon. Premier updated Cabinet on recent discussions that she had had with the Department for Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) on the current state of preparedness.
