TURKS AND CAICOS POST CABINET MEETING STATEMENT
His Excellency the Governor, Peter Beckingham, chaired the 23rd meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, 31 August 2016, at the Hon. Hilly Ewing Building on Providenciales.
All Ministers were present except the Hon. Deputy Premier. The Premier joined the meeting by teleconference.
At this meeting Cabinet:

Approved extensions of the appointments of Ms Sanfra Foster and Mrs Patricia Adams as members of the TCIG Audit Committee until 17 February 2018;

Advised His Excellency the Governor to approve, subject to amendments, the draft National Security Council Bill 2016 establishing a National Security Council and a National Security Advisory Group for forwarding to the next meeting of the House of Assembly for approval;

Advised His Excellency the Governor to agree to the appointments of the following members to the District Boards of Middle Caicos, North Caicos, South Caicos and Salt Cay for the year 2016/17 as per the Caicos District Boards Ordinance 1945 and for Cabinet to nominate additional members to the North Caicos District Board;

Advised His Excellency the Governor to appoint Mr Curtis Simmons as a member of the National Health Insurance Board (NHIB) in accordance with Section 16 (1) (h) of the National Health Insurance Ordinance for one year commencing 1 September 2016;

Approved the renewal of the rental lease agreement for the Carlos Simons Building, Customs House, off Airport Road, Providenciales, for the purpose of Government business for a period of three years with the option to purchase;

Noted the financial performance of the TCI Government for the period April-June 2016 as submitted in the First Quarter Financial Report, and approved the publication of the report as required by Section 36 of the Public Finance Management Ordinance 2012;

Approved the addition of the public boat ramp in the Columbus Landfall Marine National Park to the list of “established navigational channels, docks or marinas” within National Parks (National Parks Regulations 3(7)) to enable the removal of sand in order to maintain traditional use and access as per 3(1)(d) of the National Parks Regulations;

Approved in principle, subject to amendments being made, a draft national policy for the burial and cremation of destitute persons which sets out the qualification criteria to be eligible for government assistance;

Noted the recommendation of the Procurement Board to award a contract in line with the Public Procurement Ordinance 2012 as follows – TR 16/04 Vehicle for Invest TCI.
