UK-Albania bilateral affairs
The Ambassador addressed questions on Brexit, cooperation between UK and Albania and political engagement.
The British Ambassador to Albania spoke on the 8 March at the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs about UK-Albania bilateral affairs.
The Ambassador addressed questions on Brexit, cooperation between UK and Albania and political engagement. In his speech, the Ambassador mentioned that the UK knows that Western Balkans matters, this will not change with Brexit.
On the topic of Brexit, the Ambassador mentioned that although the UK is leaving the European Union, it is not leaving Europe. The region is vital for the UK and will continue to be important post-Brexit.
On UK-Albania bilateral relations the Ambassador mentioned that the UK has deep connections with Albania and is a strong defence partner in NATO. Albania matters for the UK and both countries work well together on important issues such as countering organised crime. More political engagement is welcomed and the Embassy aims to raise its profile.
During the course of the year the Embassy will be doubling the number of UK staff and similarly increasing local staff too. For the first time in a decade we will have a residence Defence Attaché. There are important topics where cooperation is required from both countries including serious organised crime and immigration, thus the Embassy will play a more active role. The UK is not going anywhere after Brexit - the UK is here to stay!
