UK chairs the Voluntary Principles on Security & Human Rights

Today the UK begins its Chairmanship of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, for one year.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Voluntary Principles provide guidelines to oil, gas and mining companies on how to manage human rights risks around their security operations in high-risk areas.

Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for Conflict Issues, Mark Simmonds, has recorded a video message marking the launch, and has issued a statement to Parliament. Today, we have also published our 2013 annual report on our work to support the Voluntary Principles and strengthen the initiative.
